Our Halifax Pet Photography Services

01. Dog Photography Halifax

Dogs are the heart of our studio. Whether your pup is a calm and dignified senior or a wildly enthusiastic puppy who won't sit still for two seconds, we know how to work with them. Every dog gets a full studio warm-up β€” time to sniff every corner, meet us properly, and settle in before a single frame is captured.

We photograph all breeds and temperaments. High-energy dogs? Our private backyard gives them space to run and burn off energy before portraits begin. Nervous dogs? We slow everything down and follow their lead.

02. Cat Photography Halifax

Cats demand patience β€” and we have plenty of it. Our studio is a quiet, calm environment with no dogs present during cat sessions. We let your cat explore and settle entirely on their terms before we ever pick up a camera. The result is portraits that are genuinely expressive, never forced.

From regal Persian close-ups to playful tabby action shots, we tailor every cat session to your individual feline's personality and pace.

03. Senior Pet Portraits

There is no more meaningful investment than a portrait of an older pet. Senior animals carry so much love in their faces β€” the grey muzzle, the soft eyes, the quiet dignity of a life well lived. We treat every senior session with the care and reverence it deserves, moving slowly and gently to keep your companion comfortable throughout.

Book your senior pet session while you can. These portraits become the most treasured images a family owns.

04. Bird Photography

Whether perched or in flight, we use high-speed studio lighting to capture every feather and the true essence of your bird in sharp, vivid detail. Parrots, cockatiels, macaws β€” we've captured them all.

05. Horse & Equine Photography

Horses are majestic. Our connections in the Halifax region allow us to photograph them in their natural environment β€” in action or at rest β€” with lighting and framing that honours their power and grace.

06. Exotic & Small Pets

Reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more β€” we bring the same care and specialized macro photography to every animal, no matter how unusual. If you love them, we want to photograph them.

A Bond That Lasts

We first met this duo during her Grade 12 graduation session. Years later, she returned to our studio as an MSVU graduate to recreate that same iconic pose.

This is why we do what we do. We capture the milestones that define your life, ensuring your best friend is right there in the frame beside you.

Start Your Legacy

How to Prepare for Your Session

Preparation is the key to a stress-free experience. Here is how we work together to capture those perfect, soulful moments.

1. Energy Management

Dogs: A long walk 1 hour before the shoot helps them arrive relaxed.

Cats: Keep their morning calm and bring their favorite carrier to the studio.

2. Grooming & Aesthetics

A bath 1-2 days before the session makes coats shine. Please check for "eye goop" before arrival, as our high-resolution cameras catch every detail!

3. The "Bribe" Kit

We have treats, but please bring your pet's "jackpot" favorites (extra-smelly ones!) and a squeaky toy for those adorable head tilts.

4. Arrival & Acclimation

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. This gives your pet time to sniff the studio and settle in before we start the "Live Shooting" experience.

5. Graduation & Family

Students: Please have your Dal, SMU, MSVU, or St. FX gown steamed. Wear colors that complement your pet’s fur for a cohesive look.

6. Just Have Fun

Pets pick up on your energy. Our studio is a no-pressure zone! We embrace the chaos to find those authentic, candid moments of connection.

Halifax's Premier Pet Photography Studio

At Moments in Time Photography Studio, we have spent over 20 years helping Halifax families honour the animals who share their lives. With more than 600 five-star reviews, we are the highest-rated pet photography studio in the Halifax Regional Municipality β€” trusted by dog owners, cat lovers, and exotic pet enthusiasts across HRM, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sackville, and Hammonds Plains.

Your pet is a member of your family. They deserve a portrait that reflects that. Professional pet photography is one of the most meaningful investments a pet owner can make β€” and one of the few you will never regret. Dogs age faster than we want them to. Cats grow more dignified and beautiful every year. Senior pets especially carry a quiet wisdom in their faces that deserves to be captured before time takes it away.

We are proud supporters of the Nova Scotia SPCA and the life-saving work done for animals across our province. Whether your pet came from a breeder, a rescue, or appeared at your door one winter, every animal deserves a beautiful portrait.

Frequently Asked Questions

My dog is hyper and won't sit still. Can you still photograph them?

Absolutely β€” and honestly, these are some of our favourite sessions. Our studio has a private outdoor space where high-energy dogs can run and burn off steam before portraits begin. We use treats, toys, and a "Live Shooting" approach where we follow your dog's lead rather than forcing poses. The best pet portraits come from authentic moments, not stiff commands.

Will my cat actually cooperate in a studio?

Most cats surprise their owners once they are given time and space to settle. Our cat sessions are private β€” no dogs, no chaos β€” and we let your cat explore the studio fully before we start shooting. We move slowly, use their favourite treats, and never rush. Many cats who are described as "impossible to photograph" end up being wonderful subjects.

Can I be in the photos with my pet?

Yes, and we encourage it. The bond between you and your pet is as worth documenting as the animal itself. We always set aside time in every session for portraits together β€” these often become the most treasured images from the entire shoot.

What should I bring to the session?

Bring your pet's absolute favourite treats β€” the smelliest, highest-value ones you have. A familiar toy is great for getting those perfect head-tilt expressions. For dogs, a long walk about an hour before the session makes a big difference. For cats, their own carrier and a calm morning beforehand. We handle everything else.

How do I book a pet photography session in Halifax?

Click the Book button anywhere on this page to reach our booking form, or call us directly at (902) 488-8644. Spring and fall book up quickly β€” we recommend reaching out at least three to four weeks in advance to secure your preferred date.

Do you photograph senior or elderly pets?

Senior pet sessions are some of the most meaningful work we do. We move slowly, prioritize your pet's comfort above everything, and create portraits that honour exactly who they are at this stage of life. If your pet is aging, please do not wait β€” these sessions become the most treasured images a family ever owns.

Where is Moments in Time Photography Studio located?
